Postcard - Joseph Paxton's Plea

Dear Member,

As a memory to me you passed an Act in 1990 to say that any new Crystal Palace shall reflect the architectural style of my old creation. Bromley Council now desire to place some hideous edifice where my glorious Palace stood 'twixt 1854 and 1936. Was my Palace flat with space for 950 carriages on its roof and a ramp for them to ascend? I think not! The building must not proceed. Please lend your support to those who would oppose it.

Sincerely yours,

Joseph Paxton - M.P. for Coventry from 1854 - (deceased).

This postcard was sent to all members of Parliament in November 1998 as a reminder of the Crystal Palace Act passed in 1990.

It was designed by Owen Jones.
