MASTER PLANNERS APPOINTED

(R110) LDA appoints Latz + Partners to design the future of Crystal Palace Park

LDA News Item, 21 Aug 2006

The London Development Agency today announced that it has appointed the multiple award-winning landscape architects Latz and Partners as the 'master planner' for Crystal Palace Park.

Latz + Partners will draw up a plan for the overall future of the park. They will build upon the draft framework published by the London Development Agency in 2005 and produce a plan for the 200 acre site.

This plan will take around a year to complete. It will form the basis of a planning application to the London Borough of Bromley in autumn 2007. This planning application will include detailed proposals for the listed buildings in the park - such as the National Sports Centre - and on the proposed new gateways and will be in outline for the rest of the park.

The German landscape architects Latz + Partners have won numerous awards for their work. They have a reputation for producing designs that are tailor-made for each site. Their previous projects include the Duisburg North Landscape Park, the old and new harbour at Bremerhaven, both in Germany, the Plateau de Kirchberg in Luxembourg, and the Shell Research Centre at Thornton, near Manchester.

Tilman Latz, of Latz + Partners, said:

"We are honoured to have the job of turning the London Development Agency's vision for a greener, revitalized park into reality. We look forward to meeting this challenge. We hope that the people who use and share Crystal Palace park will be excited by our plans to work with this historic space and turn it into a modern facility fit for the twenty-first century."

Latz + Partners were shortlisted following an international competition, and were appointed following competitive interviews by a multi-discipline jury, which included the London Development Agency, English Heritage, the London Borough of Bromley and representatives from the local community.

Latz + Partners have brought together an impressive team of partners for the project. These include architects Meadowcroft Griffin, transport planning consultants Steer Davies Gleave, sustainability and low energy consultants ZEF, structural engineers Jane Wernick Associates and environmental specialists Ecology Consultancy Ltd.
