Gerrit Dou: Rembrandt's First Pupil

Following the success of the recent Pieter de Hooch exhibition, the Gallery continues its exhibition programme with another Dutch painter of the Golden Age: Gerrit Dou was a master of atmosphere and is best known for his pictures of daily life - mothers with children, painters in their studios, scholars, musicians, astronomers, schoolmasters and shopkeepers: scenes packed with symbolic messages and moralising folklore.
The exhibition has generously been funded by the Arthur and Holly Magill Foundation.

The Man Who Drew Pooh: The Art of E.H Shepard
5 December 2000 - 14 January 2001 (extended to 21st January)
EH Shepard was one of Britain's best loved illustrators. Apart from creating Pooh Bear, Piglet and their friends he was also a political cartoonist.

The first international loan exhibition of seventeenth century Spanish paintings of ragamuffins and urchins, the street children of Seville.
Admission £4; Senior Citizens £3; unemployed, disabled,
students and children free.
