CONSULTATION STARTS HERE - THE REPORT, THE RESULTS
CHAPTER 7 - THE MUSEUM AREA
7.1 The responses to questions
about the Museum Area showed strong support for the park
history option. In fact, the 75% of respondents who answered
YES to that question represented the second highest positive
answer to the questionnaire (see Table 3). A graphical
illustration of the answers can be seen in Figure
13.
Figure 13 : Museum Area, all respondents
7.2 The respondents showed a
clear tolerance for the use of the Museum Area for community
or arts/cultural buildings, 63% and 62% respectively scoring
YES to those questions. These may be contrasted with only
37% and 41% respectively scoring yes to those answers for
the Top Site 26. This probably reflects the already
developed nature of the Museum Area, contrasting with the
open character of the Top Site. 7.3 When satisfaction ratings
are compared, the clearest picture emerges: see Figure 14
below.

Figure 14 : Museum area: satisfaction ratings
7.4 The park history option
enjoys a 68% satisfaction rating, as against 49% for
community buildings and 45% for arts/cultural buildings.
This strongly suggests that the community's overriding
objective is to see the museum continued and probably
strengthened.
Regional Variations
7.5 We have tested whether
there is any disparity in the views about the Museum Area
held by those living in the inner and outer zones (see Table
3, Table 15, Table 16). The results are shown in Figure
15.
Figure 15 : Museum Area, comparison of inner zone, outer zones and all responses
7.6 Once again, the results
demonstrate a very close correlation between the views held
by those in the inner and outer zones, with the clear
support for the park history option being evident amongst
both groups.
